Hi loves,
I was listening to a podcast the other day and the host was talking about a time tracking technique for business…
Simple really…
You spend a full week (two if your weeks are varied) noting down ALL the tasks you do and exactly how much time each one takes….
Why?
Well it shows you what is taking up more time than you might think.
It shows you where you could outsource and reveals why you’re NOT getting THAT thing done that you keep meaning to do…
I did this exercise in my head (but about all my work) while I was driving…
I also added a part - how each task made me feel…
Ooo before I start, this is the LAST couple of days to get 3 free months over at
by author Keris Stanton. I love her guest interviews and her honest chats about money - she’s so awesome and she’s writing a book about Harry Styles - it will be a best seller I know it! ✨She also offers guest post slots so drop her a line if you want to guest for her and chat about YOUR relationship with money! Here’s the link to get your access. Grab it by the end of the month.
This is a typical nursery/ school/ work day
I wanted to write about mum life, business, weaving together the strands of home making because to me it’s all work. It’s all me being ‘on’. This is an extract from my journal…
Everyday (Mon - Wed)
6am - wake up, tidy the kitchen, make coffee - enjoy the silence. The lack of dogs barking, neighbours pottering and the sweetness of bird song and sunrise.
6.30am - write
7am - my son gets up, I make breakfast and packed lunch and sort the stuff both children need for the day… I am ‘on’ - ready for him, frustrated he doesn’t want to go to school again.
7.30am - I get clothes and my son gets ready in his uniform. I go take a shower and get ready, do some laundry and come back down.
8am - I wake my daughter and get her dressed, make my husband tea, tidy up from breakfast. Put bags my the door, run through my mental to do list. Get my bag or work station ready to go.
8.30am - we all leave the house.
In this time if I’ve picked my phone up these time slots go way more quickly than comfortable so I try to leave it.
On Tuesdays….
9am - writers hour over at - this is inspiring time for me and I always work on something for me, not for clients. This time I worked on the copy and the a.i transcript for a podcast - it took the whole 50 minutes. You can listen here.
10am - breakfast/ brunch/ tea.
10.20am - head emptying/to do list.
10.30am - 12.30 - work on funding application. Tick another couple of life admin bits off the list. Feel accomplished.
12.30pm - 1pm - Lunch and tidy kitchen. Feel slightly rushed.
12.50pm - Reply to a couple of comments on Substack, prep for call.
1 - 2.30pm - Substack strategy one to one on zoom. Feel helpful, of service energised, inspired by my client but also tired. 90minutes on zoom is a lot for an introvert!
