I’ve not used the Notes feature for a few weeks, but I’m getting back into it now I have the headspace for it (it’s been a busy few weeks behind the scenes). Since being back I’ve enjoyed discovering new writers as well as chatting further in the comments about a subject.
The reason I joined Substack was to teach my course. It was the only platform that ever felt right to do that for me. I wanted to write and connect with my readers, but also to read other writer’s posts and connect with them too! I feel like I’ve achieved exactly that, and I absolutely love this platform.
I agree with you and your husband about video on Instagram. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a 10 minute long video there. If I need a longer video, YouTube would be where I’d head to. I tend to avoid video on Instagram as much as possible anyway, because I find myself too distracted and overwhelmed and I leave the app with a dull headache. Not something I want to bring on myself.
Thanks for sharing about Substack ticks and crests, I had no idea what they were. Im not sure I like the idea of the ticks though 🤔.
Picking up another thread here, but Nathan and I are subbed to tons of YouTube channels and almost all of them are over 10 minutes (the sweet spot for that algorithm is 20.) But we open YouTube with that in mind. Whereas Instagram I often watch muted? I don't see many videos coming through on Substack yet, but it's nice to have the option.
I've always found it really odd that gurus tell is that video is the thing for social media whereas I feel and people have also told me that they just don't watch videos - too time consuming! So why do they keep telling us to do video?? 🤔

I've noticed too that a lot of the big names with tick marks are "over delivering" for what they are charging. I hadn't connected that with the fact that Substack has likely paid them to publish here, but now it all makes sense. 🤯
I have to charge more for my membership because of the energetic capacity it takes. 💫
Then I have a paywall for bonus content (writing & podcasts). I've thought of merging them, but they are really two different offerings so I am keeping them both for now.
