It can sometimes feel like we don’t have much influence on the bigger picture.
Our internal environment can feel as clogged up as the picture the world would have us believe about climate and other crisis’.
Away from the noise, I’ve come to realise that even playing our small part especially when we make space to work from the ground up has INCREDIBLE ripple effects.
That’s one of the reasons I set BLOOM as my word of the year and it’s panning out in such dreamy ways.
“The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.”
― Wendell Berry, The Unsettling of America: Culture and Agriculture
I’m patiently waiting to hear about a funding application outcome for a creative composting project for our back lane allotment space here in Northumberland.
The allotment garden space is behind but separate from our house. We have a pastel blue wooden gate, 7 pet chickens, a pond with frogs, lots of wild flowers and feathered visitors. We get morning sunrises and there are lots of bulbs popping up there right here and now in Winter.
We don’t grow veg there but we do have mature apple, cherry and plum trees which provide a wealth of fruit. We’ve lived here 7 years and learnt lots about the garden in each season since then.
We’ve also learnt lots about ourselves, the garden has kindly taught us a lot of that.
Last year, we opened the garden up for visitors and positioned a pop up tipi there for retreats, creativity classes and my one to ones.
You can read more about the tipi project here.
It worked brilliantly but it was A LOT to manage a venue with a one year old in tow and took its toll on my husband’s energy levels and my mental head space.
This year we’ve reset and we’re ready to take things a little slower…
Here’s what our Soil Project is all about and what the funding will help us do…
