It’s been a good week, thanks for asking, Claire. I’m trying to find my way in Substack, so your post is so helpful. I joined in Dec last year with the intention to write weekly before falling off and writing monthly because life just became hectic.
I winced at the thought of recording my voice -- one for the future I think 😆
I’m hoping to grow my readers while simultaneously growing my voice, and experimenting with subject. There’s a mask within my writing that I’m trying to remove to write truly, honestly. It’s hard work! Any tips on getting to remove the mask would be much appreciated x
Thanks Claire as always for your Friday post! I love the insight and the inspiration. I've thought about voiceovers, I've even gone as far as recording them. But then I listen back and I'm like nope 😂
Why do we hate the sound of our own voices?! Maybe I will get over it and pluck up the courage one day!
Ahh what is that - I NEVER listen back! Do you leave whatsapp voice notes?
I try to see it like I would a conversation with a friend who is interested in what I have to say as I figure no one else would listen past a minute or two? Honestly the book changed everything I love her! I can’t even remember many of the tips but it all went in and helped me! ❤️
It’s really been a game changer for me... I think just in terms of self expression and working out where my spoken voice meets my written voice depending on who I’m sharing it with if that makes sense? ✨
Yes absolutely! I think voice overs only work with certain type of posts for sure. I like the idea of looking at it as a way of self-expression, and maybe to add life to the words on the page. I like listening to other peoples as it gives me a sense of the person behind the words.
For me, it's also knowing if anyone will actually want to listen to them but then I think you don't know until you try. And usually I'm all for trying things (feeling the fear and doing it anyway kinda-attitude!) so maybe I just need to do it and see how it lands 💜
I have finally published a couple of articles & now making some time to allow space for Substack. Work for a bit crazy again & I have had to revisit the ‘what am I truly here for?’ (as in here in this world)
Health knocks are my continuous reminder to live life in a more meaningful way!!
Good for you. ✨✨ Ahh same same Tiffany, I don’t know what happened with work but I daren’t even admit how many projects I was plugged into to... it all feels great until it doesn’t and I really need a break now and some perspective on it all... I’m so curious on this healing path of “over delivering” to stay relevant and plugged in to my commissioners... some stories need to be re written! 📖
I'm here to help keep you accountable, or just throw a nudge here and there too. That's gotta be one of the best things about Substack - lots of folks willing to help with the creative and marketing processes. Whew! I'm grateful for all the help myself.
Ah I hear you Sue... I think there are opportunities to grow within the network here - notes & Recomendations are my favourite growth tools as they always feel so supportive.
Are you doing anything with audio or video yet? ✨🙌🏻
Thank you for your recommendations!
Thanks so much for this, Claire. It’s so generous of you to share this information x
Oh you’re welcome Nat. I felt so called to show up each week and share what I’ve been learning here. How’s your week on Substack been?
It’s thoughtful of you 🙃

I don't leave WhatsApp voice notes, maybe I need to start to in order to build my confidence in sharing my voice in that way!
I will check out the book for sure ☺️

Yeah sometimes I listen when I’m pottering around tidying up or something... ✨
Thank you for all the info, news & basically the pure gold you’ve shared here 🧡
Aw you’re so welcome! How’s things on Substack for you? Cx

Good stuff, Claire. I appreciated the callout for Russell's Note, too. That was a banger.
😂 a right banger! I mean I had to read it 3 times - he’s brilliant on this stuff!!!
I keep getting the right little nudges of info at the right times, too.
"When the teacher is ready, the instructor appears."
Oh I love that line... I feel like I need some of those myself this week... the nudges I mean! ✨👩🏽💻

Been feeling like I need to be clearer or more creative or more expressive or less multi-hypen or something this week!
Hit me up if you ever need a fresh set of eyes!
thanks for sharing, Claire 🙏🏼
enjoy your break... ⛱️
Thanks Darren!! ✨
my pleasure 🙏🏼

Thanks for the mention, Claire 😘 So much useful info here. Have a great summer!
You too! Looking forward to your next podcast! 👩🏽💻✨ 🎧
Thank you Claire for such a comprehensive article! Lots to digest and explore. I’ve saved it so that I can come back to it again and again.
Aww you’re welcome Linn. Felt a little cobbled together this week as the kids have been sick so I’ve had less time. Thanks for your kind words. ✨🙏
Same! 🙋🏻♀️💗
Thank you for all of the info…have a fab summer 🙏💜
Thanks love ❤️
Brilliant post and as Annabelle said a lot to digest. I feel a little stuck here on Substack - I love writing my newsletters but I feel I’ve lost some
Momentum in terms of growing my followers, so posts like this are inspiring and motivating. Also thank you for being so supportive of my Substack!

Funny you say that - I've just recorded my first audio version of a newsletter to go out on Sunday and recording a video tomorrow.
Oh wow Sue! That’s so brilliant! It always feels like a big milestone to do something new with tech doesn’t it?
Thank you for sharing! Glad it resonated
Brilliant note! So much to digest in there. Thank you - and to Claire for sharing it!
Such a lot I’ve read it four times! Can they make a print option?! 🖨️✨🙉
I know! It’s definitely something I’m gonna be printing off & highlighting!
